Our instructors are experienced roller hockey players, coaches, and sports education experts who have excellent teaching skills and who support the Hockey Seed goals of instilling a strong work ethic, sportsmanship, superior performance, and love of roller hockey. Our current instructors are:
Mike Casey has a rare gift: the ability to express both the basic and technical concepts of roller hockey to athletes and coaches alike in a way that is both understood and authoritative. And he does it while keeping them moving, engaged, and improving. His gift has been honed by training, as Mike has not only been coaching since the age of 17 but is also a graduate of Cabrini College with a degree in education. He is the Head Coach of the 14AAA Jr. Gladiators, where he has coached teams to a number of national championships, and is currently the technical coach for the Neumann College Roller Hockey Team
., who took home the 2006 DII national collegiate gold medal with Mike's guidance. Mike is an accomplished roller hockey player who has played for the national champion Marple Gladiators and was a member of the 2002 PIHA All-Star team. Mike has also coached youth basketball, dek hockey, and roller hockey for area school and community teams.
Mike is on hiatus from roller hockey clinics while he works on his Master's degree and is teaching only targeted weekend clinics for us - in particular, coaching clinics. He will gladly come to your rink to spend time with your kids and coaches. Contact Cheri if you'd like to know more.
Brian brings extensive experience in both roller hockey and soccer to his instruction, and the result is a very intense, fast-paced clinic that keeps the kids' minds and bodies engaged. Brian is a superior athlete whose enthusiasm for roller hockey is contagious, and his ability to walk the walk, talk the talk, and keep the notion of play everpresent in the game is something that keeps the kids excited about his clinics. Brian breathes life into each kid's experience of roller hockey, and every kid who skates onto the rink with this young man is better off for it.
A roller hockey player since the page of 12, Brian has played for a variety of pro roller hockey teams - Tour Growl
, Downingtown Rage, and Labeda Lawdawgs. He has also played soccer since age three for highly competitive local teams such as Humeville, United German Hungarian, and Comwell Egan Catholic and Select teams. He has been high scorer and MVP in both sports more times than we can count.
Warning, warning: Brian has been our head instructor since Hockey Seed started in spring 2003, and his clinics fill quickly. We have kids who have attended "Brian's clinics" since our very first session. Families organize their lives so they can get their kids to this clinic. The kids love Brian, and he really puts them to work.
Hockey Seed is very excited to have Ron Tracy on board with us this year! Ron Tracy brings his extensive experience as a world-class roller hockey athlete/coach to expand the skills of Hockey Seed students. Ron was formerly the director of Blue Diamond Inline Hockey Center (Wilmington, Delaware), where he managed the roller hockey program and taught hundreds of kids to play. His impressive experience as coach and roller hockey athlete also includes:
In addition to teaching weekly clinics at The Sportsplex, Ron will come to your rink to teach team and skills-specific clinics. Contact Cheri if you'd like to know more.
Walt, who helps to manage Hockey Seed, doesn't actually teach the clinics, but he is our resident assistant instructor. (Yeah, that means he chases the pucks for the instructors!) We have also found that he has a knack for working with beginning goalies, so you'll often find him in front of the net.
Walt has been coaching for the Coyote Roller Hockey Club
for the last several years (just about every age group at some point), and is very popular with the other coaches because he's always willing to jump in and help them out. Walt is also an avid sports photographer who takes thousands of pictures of the kids through a typical roller hockey season.
We work with a variety of roller hockey goalie instructors - primarily older high school and college students. Contact Cheri if you'd like to know more about our strategy for assisting goalies.
